 Abstract

Morphometry of the terrestrial slug Laevicaulis alte (Gastropoda: Styllomatophora) was carried out. Slugs were collected from the foot hills of Southern Western Ghats region of Courtallam area. Frequency distributions were calculated on the basis of animal length, breadth and live body weight (at motion and at rest). The study revealed significant positive correlation ( P>0.05 ) of the length and breadth of the slug with relevance to body weight of the animal at motion and at rest. The regression equation of length at motion was y = 1.169x + 0.516, (R2 = 0.983) and at rest it was y = 0.684x + 0.76 (R2=0.988); the breadth at motion y = 0.276x + 0.541 (R2 = 0.851) and at rest y = 0.414x + 0.713 (R2=0.839). Morphometric measurements are basic details of the animal to study taxonomy, comparison of distribution of similar species and their ecobiology.

 Abstract

: In the recent years of development, the abundant use of power electronics based components and systems have made a major impact on power quality of electric power supply of distribution system and raised various power quality issues. There are various technologies used for mitigation of power quality related problems. One of them is shunt active power filter(SAPF). A modified harmonic detection method based on Gauss-Newton method is used for three phase three wire shunt active power filter. The main objective of this method is to compensate for load harmonic current. A model of three-phase three wire SAPF based on the proposed modified recursive Gauss-Newton method is developed using MATLAB/Simulink. Synchronous Reference Frame theory [SRFT] is a well-known reference current generation technique, used for mitigation of harmonics. Both the reference generation method is implemented in MATLAB/Simulink and their performance comparison has been discussed. .

 Abstract

Biodegradation of biomedical waste (LDPE) samples using microbial consortium of microorganisms was monitored as a function of number of days and the results were presented in Percentage weight loss due to degradation was determined by subtracting the weight of the sample taken out on a particular day i.e., 40 days of exposure from the initial weight ie., the weight of the sample at the start of degradation study each time. It was observed from the results that percentage weight loss by Bacillus cereus, Bacillus licheniformis and Bacillus subtilis revealed 34.61, 26.92 and 15.38 %. Similarly, when the polymer LDPE was pretreated with UV exposure it was 46.15% for Bacillus cereus UV treated sample followed by Bacillus licheniformis exhibited 38.46% and Bacillus subtilis revealed 26.92 %. In the present study, bacteria cultured on nutrient broth medium until the mid - exponential phase was transferred to the test tube with constant volume of 1.2 ml to which increasing volumes of hexadecane were added. Bacillus cereus incubated in a liquid medium containing polyethylene as sole carbon source colonized the polyethylene and formed a sparse biofilm. BATH assay demonstrated that hydrophobicity of Bacillus cereus exhibited 89% and it was very high in compared to Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus licheniformis.

 Abstract

Savitribai Phule (1831-1897) was a prominent social reformer and feminist thinker of nineteen- century India. She also a pioneer for women's education in India and fought for the education of girls throughout her life. From the duration of the British decree or rule, she (Savitribai) dedicated her existence in flourishing women's civil rights and introduced education for girls in Indian society jointly with her husband. She also founded the first school for girls in the Pune province of Maharashtra. Phule's social thought are based on humanism, on the values of equality, fraternity and justice. In these perspectives, the great philosopher Swami Vivekananda said, "There is no chance for the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved." It is not possible for a bird to fly on only one wing. Therefore, in this paper, an attempt has been made to assess how, as a visionary, Phule's thinking and activities on women's empowerment impact nineteen -century British India.

 Abstract

Flood risk assessment is a critical component of urban planning and disaster management, especially in rapidly growing cities like Bangalore, India. This abstract provides an overview of the flood risk assessment in Bangalore, highlighting the key factors contributing to flood risks, the methods used for assessment, and the implications for sustainable urban development. Bangalore, often referred to as India's Silicon Valley, has witnessed unprecedented urbanization and population growth in recent decades. However, this rapid expansion has resulted in increased vulnerability to flooding, primarily due to unplanned development, inadequate stormwater drainage systems, and the encroachment of water bodies and floodplains. The city's topography, with its undulating terrain and several lakes, further exacerbates the flood risk. To address these challenges, comprehensive flood risk assessments have become essential. Such assessments incorporate data on rainfall patterns, land use, soil types, drainage infrastructure, and historical flood events. Advanced technologies like remote sensing, GIS (Geographic Information Systems), and hydrological modeling are instrumental in analyzing and predicting flood risks.

 Abstract

This paper examines the trajectory of the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in creating a cashless economy. A cashless economy is an environment in which transactions are conducted using a credit card or debit card, internet banking, an e-wallet, a point of sale, and so on rather than physically moving currency. The report also demonstrated how the employment of information and communication technology gadgets and techniques in the banking industry has resulted in major changes in the quality, mode, and substance of banking operations around the world. This study also discussed the significance of digital competency in the cashless economy and developed a framework for them. "Digital competence refers to the set of knowledge, skills, attitudes (including abilities, strategies, values and awareness) that are required when using ICT and digital media to perform tasks, solve problems and communicate" [1]. Digital proficiency is an important prerequisite for a cashless economy.
