 Abstract

Prolonged standing poses a significant occupational health risk for female canteen workers, leading to musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study examines the prevalence of MSDs among 60 workers in Belthangady Taluq, Karnataka, using the Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and chi-square analysis. Results show high incidences of ankle/foot pain (85%) and lower back pain (75%), with significant correlations to work experience and standing duration. Many workers rely on home remedies and seek medical care only when the pain becomes unbearable. The study highlights the need for ergonomic interventions, structured rest breaks, physiotherapy, and dietary adjustments to improve worker well-being.

 Abstract

The trepidation of the deteriorating environmental conditions caused by the reckless use of chemical products has triggered worldwide efforts to create eco-friendly fibers. The ever-expanding range of textile fibers has the aim of drastically reducing the global consumption of harmful, non-biodegradable, eco-friendly products. The main goal of the textile industry is to be eco-conscious. Due to their widespread use as animal feed and in a wide variety of human food products, soybeans and their processed forms have grown in importance in agriculture. Increasingly, clothing companies are offering clothes made with eco-friendly fabrics. There is a growing concern about the deteriorating environmental conditions caused by the irresponsible use of raw materials. Demand for eco-friendly clothing is also on the rise. Eco-friendly fibers can be used as whole or as part of materials and products in various forms and performance characteristics for a wide range of applications. As the world's environment continues to deteriorate, it is essential to step up the space of research in the development and use of eco-friendly fibers. But the concern is, it contains several known allergenic proteins; soy is acknowledged as a dietary allergy. Respiratory health issues are also caused by inhaled soy dust from work-related activities. According to reports of "asthma epidemics" in harbor cities, occupational activities involving the loading and unloading of bulk soy without the proper dust control procedures were linked to community health issues. Occupational asthma (OA) is one of the many allergy symptoms that can be brought on by inhaled allergens in those who are already sensitized. Lung irritation is another health issue associated with soybean dust. Additional possible respiratory risks are endotoxins and fungal contaminants linked to soy. The amounts of exposure to dust and significant allergens from a variety of occupational tasks are reviewed, together with data on illnesses and symptoms resulting from airborne exposure to allergens in dust from soybean and derivative products. Additional possible health risks linked to soybeans are also emphasized, including endotoxin and fungal contamination.

 Abstract

Healthy worker is a key factor for the maintenance and economic growth of an industry. Industrial workers are the worst affected, as they are directly exposed to the physical, psychological and social environments of the industry. The relationship between nutritional status and workplace productivity is well established. Workers who maintain balanced diet that meets their nutritional needs typically exhibit higher energy levels, better cognitive functions and lower absenteeism. The speedy introduction of new industries poor and insecure working condition and the creation of new tools to enhance mass production and other processes brought about serious threat to work health, which were not accepted. Puducherry being an industrial hub has both organized and unorganized sectors. The residents of rural Puducherry have witnessed an increase in the employability of native people working in the industry. Hence, the investigator chose to study the musculoskeletal disorders of selected industrial workers of Puducherry. A total of 523 workers were selected based on random sampling method and the details regarding demographic profile and work pattern was assessed using validated questionnaire. Musculoskeletal disorder and pain were assessed using Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (NMQ) and Wong - Baker FACES pain rating scale respectively. Anthropometric measurements were recorded using standard methods and BMI was computed Findings showed the majority of workers were in moderate physical activity levels and there is no significant difference between work and gender. Workers between 20-39 years of age stand long hours. Body mass index indicates a low incidence of obesity. Middle and elder adult workers experience more pain, but there was no significant gender difference in pain levels. Musculoskeletal pain and ache in feet, numbness were reported by majority of adults. Overall the finding suggest that while the immediate working condition are fair, there is a need for monitoring their dietary pattern and support to address the long term health risk faced by the workers.

 Abstract

In Assam, India's main tea-growing region, tea fields have historically depended on a largely female labour population that is subject to a number of occupational hazards. The physical working conditions, safety regulations, level of personal protective equipment (PPE), and managerial support for female tea pluckers were all examined in this study. Over half of 400 female tea pluckers who participated in a cross-sectional survey reported unfavourable working circumstances (54.70%), limited access to first aid (51.10%), and discontent with personal protective equipment (PPE) (54.80%). Additionally, over 70% of respondents mentioned musculoskeletal problems brought on by physically demanding occupations and repeated tasks. Longer work exposure significantly increased health hazards, according to statistical studies such as chi-square tests, regression models, and Pearson correlation; on the other hand, enhanced safety perceptions and job satisfaction were strongly correlated with more managerial assistance. The results emphasise how urgently strong managerial reforms, efficient safety measures, and ergonomic improvements are needed. The report also examines possible future research directions, implementation challenges, and policy consequences.

 Abstract

Nutritionally, red rice is distinguished by its higher antioxidant content, thanks to the anthocyanins in its husk, which offer anti-inflammatory and cardioprotective benefits. Atchaya Ponni rice, on the other hand, is considered beneficial for managing blood sugar levels due to its low glycemic index, making it ideal for individuals with diabetes or those seeking to maintain stable blood sugar levels. However, the processing of these rice varieties must be optimized to retain these nutritional benefits, while also adhering to occupational safety standards to minimize any health risks associated with the production process. This comparative study examines both the nutritional composition of red rice and Atchaya Ponni rice, focusing on the occupational health and safety implications throughout their processing stages. The interior of both red and white rice's is the same colour: white. Compared to white rice, red rice has a content of zinc and iron that is two to three times higher. Atchaya ponni and Red rice were the rice varieties used for the proximate analysis. Compared to atchaya ponni rice, red rice was shown to have higher fibre content. In comparison to red rice, atchaya ponni has the highest protein content. In comparison to Atchaya Ponni rice, red rice has higher levels of moisture, fat, and ash. Red rice was shown to have higher nutritional content levels.

 Abstract

In modern societies, adolescents are exposed to mass media. This is because social media applications provide users with advantages in accessing to a wide variety of information, networking opportunities, enjoyment, taking part in events, and playing online games from any location and at any time paving the way to increased long-term uses lead to social media addiction. Prolonged used of social media increases the risk of eating disorders in adolescents. The most common media outlet for food-related messages is television. Adolescents who watch TV for extended periods of time are especially vulnerable to bad eating habits. Adolescents are exposed to numerous food commercials such as junk foods and soft beverages that are high in energy and fats while watching television. This addiction to media not only fosters unhealthy eating habits but also inhibits levels of physical activity and leads to an increase of sedentary behaviors. Spending hours on social media and other screens reduces chances to engage in physical activity, which ultimately results in weight gain and a rise in body mass, which can trigger obesity and other numerous health hazards. It is a descriptive study of 251 adolescent girls aged between14-19 years were selected by simple random sampling technique. Data was collected by means of structured questionnaire. The more exposure to screen time and watching TV paving them to have snacking habits and lesser physical activity that leads to health hazards.

 Abstract

A hazard encountered at work is referred to as an occupational hazard. Chemical, biological, psychological, and physical risks are only a few of the various kinds of hazards that fall under this category. To put it another way, occupational hazards account for the likelihood of accidents or illnesses occurring at work. Cereal- based flour units include the machinery, where the various types of grains are converted to flours and that are operated by the persons who have to work amongst the dust that spreads during the hoping of cereals, collection of flours in bags and in packing section. A lot of respiratory hazards and hearing issues due to the heavy noise created by the machinery. In these units, heavy noise created by the machinery makes hearing impairment among the workers and slips and falls in the working area. Samples from the selected flour mills are taken by random sampling method and checked for their clinical symptoms, respiratory illnesses, musculoskeletal problems. Around 21percent of them suffered from some forms of allergies, itching and dry skin, 68 percent of them have respiratory related problems like cough, 8 percent of them have breathing trouble, 23 percent of them have irritation in throat. Many of them are uneducated and they are unaware of the importance of safety measures to be followed in the industry premises. This study revealed the importance of educating and implementing safety measures among the workers.
