 Abstract

Pollution is a major cause of concern affecting not only the nature but also the food we consume. In a recent study high concentrations of heavy metals like arsenic, nickel, cadmium and lead were found in aquatic life (fish samples obtained from various outlets in Hyderabad and Secunderabad ).The concentration of heavy metals depend on the fish species. Presence of heavy metals in these fish is an issue of pollution of water bodies , which is of major concern .Hence there is a need to know the concentrations of heavy metals in water . In the present study an attempt was made to analyse the concentrations of arsenic ,nickel, cadmium and lead by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Water naturally contains a few heavy metals but their concentrations are low and the high concentrations are due to pollution

 Abstract

This study investigated the effect of computer-based Instructional game (CBIG) in teaching chemistry at the senior high school (SHS). The purpose of the study was to determine how the use of computer game as an instructional strategy would enhance the performance and attitudes of SHS students towards balancing of chemical equations (BoCEs). It also examined the effect of gender on these outcomes. The study adopted developmental research approach employing the case study method. The research sample consisted of 40 (25 males and 15 females) second year chemistry students. Test, questionnaire and interview were the instruments used for the study. The CBIG was implemented and evaluated in one science class of a selected SHS in the Central Region of Ghana for four weeks. The findings showed that students’ performance in the BoCEs improved significantly after the intervention period. The findings also showed that the students’ attitudes towards BoCEs improved significantly after the study. However, the study showed no significant differences in the performance and the attitudes of the male and the female students towards the BoCEs using the CBIG intervention. The findings also showed that the students were of the view that the CBIG intervention stimulated their interests and minimised their negative perceptions associated with the BoCEs concept.

 Abstract

This paper presents a novel fault detection system in a three phase micro grid systems. It is done through the observation of damping oscillations caused in the transient voltage magnitude when the fault occurs. Our theoretical study and extensive simulations demonstrate that there is an approximated linear relationship between the maximum magnitude of the transient signal observed by a sensor, and the distance between the sensor and the fault location. Based on the discovered relationship, microgrid topology and sensor location information, we have designed an algorithm capable of locating the fault in the single-phase microgrids. The proposed fault location method has been implemented and validated through simulations in MATLAB Simulink software and the results are shown with different fault location on the micro grid.

 Abstract

In the demographic literature in the country the studies pertaining to the intricate interplay between female literacy, poverty, child malnutrition and child mortality are quite few and far between. The recent focus which was thrust on Millennium Development Goals 4 (Child Survival) and 5 (Maternal Health) has made the scholars study whether the geographic regions that were underprivileged and underserved in terms of female literacy, wealth, safe delivery or child nutrition were also grappling with the issue of enhanced risk of child mortality or whether there were any spatial contours defining these issues. The present research study makes a serious attempt to investigate these critical and important issues using the data from household surveys like NFHS 1992-1993, NFHS 1998-1999 and DLHS 2002-2004.

Kent Jones, a professor of Economics at Babson College, has produced a timely and informative work when the WTO, now with 153 members, is finding it difficult to reach consensus and conclude the multilateral trade negotiations. In his book, he outlines the institutional reforms that are required in order to make the WTO relevant when many critics are questioning its existence.
