 Abstract

Kodaikanal is located on the Western Ghats at an altitude of 2,100m. It includes mainly shola forests because of the most diverse ecosystem. Foliicolous fungus provides a good platform for the fungal diversity in the tropical region. The present study involves the collection, identification and documentation of foliicolous fungi of various sholas which are called as living fossil and has resulted in recording 30 species of Asterinaceae. From the collected species, 4 are new species belonging to genera Asterina, namely A. dhivaharanii, A. kukkalensis, A. polygalae and A. viburnii. Species of these fungi are preferably called as Black Mildews. The chemicals produced as a result of host-parasite interaction is used for the benefit of human. The host of these fungi namely Impatiens viscida, Premna sp., Polygala arillata, Viburnum cylindricum is used as a natural calmative, to cure stomach disorders, as anti-ulcer and anti-inflammatory agents. Hence to know much about these fungi and their interaction, an organized study is essential, as the fungal wealth of this region is not fully studied.

 Abstract

Medicinal plants are a boon to human beings to lead a disease free healthy life. They play a major role in maintaining human health. One such medicinal plant is Abutilon indicum. It is an erect, woody, shrubby plant and widely distributed in the tropical countries. The whole plant is used to cure many diseases. It is a rare weed plant mostly found in wastelands of tropical region. The whole plant of Abutilon indicum has a good deal of various components. The leaves include steroids, saponin, carbohydrates and flavonoids. The root comprises linoleic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, palmitic acid whereas the seeds embrace all the essential aminoacids with palmitic acid. The elemental role of this plant involves Hypoglycemic, Immunomodulatory, Analgesic, Antimicrobial, Ant diabetic, Antiulcer, Anti arthritic, Anti inflammatory and Larvicidal activity. The leaves of this plant were generally taken orally in order to get relieved from body pain. The present review aims to provide detailed survey of literature on the phytochemical and pharmacological properties of Abutilon indicum.

 Abstract

The present study aims to assess feasibility of tea leaf waste as potential adsorbent for defluoridation of potable water. The present work involves batch adsorption technique using SPANDS method to infer optimal values of different adsorption parameters such as adsorbent dose, pH, contact time, stirring rate and adsorbate dose for acid and alkali treated tea leave waste. The optimum sorbent dose was found to be 2.0 g/250 mL, equilibrium was achieved in 90 minutes at 120 rpm and enhanced adsorption was obtained at pH 2 for both acid and alkali treated tea waste. Maximum fluoride removal was observed to be 84.8% for acid treated tea waste and 66.8% for alkali treated tea waste at optimum conditions.

 Abstract

Roller conveyor chains are mostly preferred in production or assembly lines to transport goods as a material handling system. Roller chains have to deal with different environment conditions, chemicals. This causes wear and tear of components of chains and hence unexpected failure and costly production.  Abstract

The tribal students are the one with least exposure to the external world and with least facilities available to them but with a maximum support of their family and a healthy open environment to live in. With that situation, it would be worthwhile to check the social intelligence of these students in comparison to the non-tribal students. The present piece of research was done by studying a sample of 300 tribal students selected randomly from Kashmir provision and compare them to an equal number of those students who are not essentially tribal i.e. Non-Tribal. The Social intelligence scale by Chadda and Ganesan (2009) was used for the measurement of Social intelligence. The results after analysing the data revealed that the non-tribal students were having high patience, cooperativeness, confidence, social environment, tactfulness and sense of humour while tribals were high on sensitivity dimension of social intelligence. On memory dimension of social intelligence, no significant difference was seen between the two. Also, a significant difference was found between tribal and non-tribal students on the composite score of social intelligence with non-tribals having higher social intelligence than tribal students.

 Abstract

Data mining is the process of discovering interesting knowledge patterns from large amount of data stored in database. It is an essential process where the intelligent techniques (i.e., machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc) are used to extract the data patterns (i.e., features). The aim of data mining process is to extract the useful information from dataset and transform it into understandable structure for future use. Feature extraction is the process of extracting the relevant features from large database for dimensionality reduction. Many conventional feature extraction techniques were used to project the data in low dimensional space to highlight the property of scattered data. But, the feature extraction time and feature extraction accuracy performance was not improved for high dimensional dataset. Our research objective is to extract the feature from high dimensional data with higher feature extraction accuracy and minimal space complexity by studying the existing issues.

 Abstract

In the present study phytosociological analysis of Low land ecosystem require knowledge of standard phytosociological methods and its component species. The standard phytosociological methods were applied to the plant communities of Varansai was carried out one at crop land site namely site I and other at low land site namely site II. The total number of plant species recorded from both the sites is in all 29 species. The total number of species recorded at two sites separately was 20 and 22 respectively. On the basis of IVI and frequency data some species as Ammania baccifera, cynodon dactylon, cyperus rotundus, Melilotus alba were found to dominate at site I, whereas that for site II was exhibited by Ammania baccifera, cyperus rotundus, chenopodium album, eclipta alba. Study of species composition of both sites reflects that the area occupied by Ammania baccifera L. is greater than any other studied species. It exhibit higher value of IVI and frequency than other species shows its high competitive ability presence of different interference mechanism including root system and foliar structure may be accounted for possible reason for dominance of Ammania baccifera L. in Low land ecosystem of Varanasi.

 Abstract

Fruits are the most important food for mankind as they play a major role in maintaining good health by enhancing the immune system. In general fruit harvests are spoiled due to improper quality control activity. So they are preserved by fermentation process in the form of wine. Wine restores most of the nutrients present in the original fruit juice. The nutritive value of wine is increased due to release of amino acids and other nutrients from microbial fermentation. The most commonly used fruit for wine production is grape. Guava, cheekoo, plums, cherries, black berry, peaches, pears also have the ability of producing wine. Of which, guava and cheekoo are easily available seasonal fruits. They are the powerhouse of minerals and vitamin and they have antioxidant properties. The objectives of the study are to make a comparative account of nutrient rich home-made wines, to identify their phytochemical components and to determine their antimicrobial activity against members of Enterobacteriaceae family.

 Abstract

Wire electrical discharge machining allowed success in the production of newer materials, especially for the aerospace and medical industries. Using WEDM technology, complicated cuts can be made through difficult-to-machine electrically conductive components. The high degree of the obtainable accuracy and the fine surface quality make WEDM valuable. Inconel is one of the newer materials that are developed to be hard, strong and temperature resistant which is widely used in turbo machinery industry due to their outstanding mechanical properties. However the challenge lies in optimum performance of WEDM and machining constraints with Inconel-718, so in this paper Inconel 718, was machined using WEDM and further with two different electrodes materials zinc coated brass and plain brass. Anova, is used to get the most influencing parameter out of discharge energy, pulse off, wire feed, wire tension, and flushing pressure on cutting rate, accuracy parameter kerf width. It has been found that discharge energy released is determining factor for both the response variables and there is considerable effect of electrode materials.
