 Abstract

The research paper aims at developing a product which supports different types of pressure sensors, absolute, differential and gauge. The product is used shall be used as a ground servicing equipment calibrated in lab. This product shall be used to validate or cross verify the aircraft pressure system. The product will not be mounted on the aircraft. Product being designed facilitates the display of pressure being applied currently and calibration. The hardware can be configured for three different applications as mentioned below - PSTE (Pitot Static Test Equipment) - FTLT (Fuel Tank Leak Tester) - ASI (Air Speed Indicator) The board can be configured to act as PSTE, FTLT or ASI by burning individual software on the IC for individual applications. Calibration procedure for each of these applications differs a little bit based on what type of pressure sensor(s) is (are) connected. Primary data is pressure data in PSI and rest all derived data and pressure unit conversion. (Calibration of sensor is stored and displays the applied pressure). There will be mathematical air data calculation, air data unit conversion and pressure unit conversion. The product has LCD display for user friendly messages for measurements/calibration etc. Four keys are provided for configuration/calibration.

 Abstract

In this project, a control strategy for power flow management of a grid-connected hybrid PV-wind-battery based system with an efficient multi-input transformer coupled bidirectional dc-dc converter is presented. The aim of our project is to satisfy the load demand, manage the power flow from different sources, inject surplus power into the grid and charge the battery from grid as and when required. A transformer coupled boost half-bridge converter is used to harness power from wind, while bidirectional buck-boost converter is used to harness power from PV along with battery charging/discharging control. A single-phase full-bridge bidirectional converter is used for feeding ac loads and interaction with grid. The proposed converter architecture has reduced number of power conversion stages with less component count, and reduced losses compared to existing grid-connected hybrid systems. Then we are going to test the single phase multilevel converter to feed ac loads and interaction with grid.

 Abstract

The present study is based on the infestation of gall insect (Pauropsylla tuberculata) on Alstonia tree which is species specific. Gall insect belongs to the order Hemiptera and is commonly known as the jumping lice. It is recorded from all over India, Malaya, Myanmar, Siam, Philippines etc. The gall insect form galls in the Alstonia scholaris tree as it is the host plant for it. The life cycle of gall insect and the infected Alstonia tree from CSIR-NEERI office premises were studied. It was observed that, this insect lacks the pupal stage and directly turns to became adult. It has 5nymphalstages namely stage 1, stage 2, stage 3, stage 4 and stage 5. As soon as it hatched, it forms the galls by sucking the plant sap which is a source of food and nutrition for it. In the gall, it completes its whole life cycle and emerges out as the adult and habitat nearby the same tree, where it again lays eggs on the leaves of this tree. To minimize the infestation on the trees removal of the infected leaves and burying or dumping was done as the preliminary measure. As the infestation is causing a huge loss to the plant it is categorized as pest.

 Abstract

Water scarcity and field monitoring are big concern at recent times. This project is used to irrigate the farmland and also protect the field from trespassers. In an efficient manner with an automated irrigation system based on a water capacity needed for a particular plant will be irrigated. Soil moisture sensor is used to find moisture level in the field and based on this a periodic notification is displayed to the farmer and the system will automatically switching the console of the motor pump. For field monitoring a motion sensor is used. During trespassing, a notification is passed to the farmer and he can control his farming field.

 Abstract

In the present era,due to different weather conditions the images that are captured in these conditions gets degraded due to the presence of fog ,haze, rain and so on. Images of scenes captured in bad weather have poor contrasts and colors. This may cause difficulty in detecting the objects in the captured hazy images. Due to haze there is a trouble to many computer vision applications as it diminishes the visibility of the scene. Previously different techniques have been used to remove the fog and haze from the Images. But this method fails to detect the images with snowy ground. This paper presents the fog and haze removal method using guided filter. In this proposed method video is taken as input and processing can be done on that video. Atmospheric light and transmission map calculated finally using guided filter .the fog and haze removed from the video .Our method yields better performance than the other methods and provides accurate and valid results.

 Abstract

Modern power system have large amount of generation from fossil fuels which provide high degree of reliability and sustainability but produce carbon and pollute the environment from green house gasses. Distributed generation (DG) is the best alternative to reduce such problems but DG installations have their own problems of reliability and installed near consumer end need bidirectional power flow. Smart grid provides the solution by controlling the power consumption through Demand Side Management (DSM). Demand Side Management (DSM) is much needed requirement to control the consumption at distribution side, objective of the paper is to compare the two latest technologies of DSM through literature review, which are Time-of Utilization (TOU) and Stepwise Power Tariff (SPT). TOU is the methodology used to reduce the difference between peak and normal hour power consumption and STP is divided the power consumption in several parts and reduce the cost. Both these methodologies are used together for better results as future scope.

 Abstract

One of the significant changes that the life insurance companies in India have experienced in the current millennium is the introduction of financial sector reforms coupled with liberalization and globalization which have practically made the market condition precarious. With the liberalization of the economy, more and more insurance companies have entered into the market and thereby eroding the market share of all the companies in operation. The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) was set up as a regulatory and monitoring body to overview the tasks of the insurance companies. Since then there has been a galloping inflow of private companies in the Indian Insurance industry and thus infused tremendous competition in this sector. This has posed a challenges for each and every life insurance companies, irrespective of their size, to survive in the market as well as to maintain a sound financial position. The paper makes an attempt to compare the financial performance of SBI Life Insurance Company and Shriram Life Insurance Company from 2008-2009 to 2013-2014 on the basis of certain parameters relating to profitability, solvency and liquidity.
